Vertical Incision in Breast Augmentation
The vertical incision is one of the more commonly used incision in many breast reduction surgeries by plastic surgeons. It is also used for patients that need a breast lift because of sagging or drooping caused by age or pregnancy. This incision is also known as the short scar method.
When the plastic surgeon performs the vertical incision the cuts are made around the areola and then vertically down from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease. Unlike the anchor incision this cut does not require a horizontal incision along the breast crease and that gives less scarring than the anchor incision does as well. It will however leave a smaller scar, as most breast surgeries do, in the shape of a little vertical line.
When the plastic surgeon that uses the vertical incision during the breast reduction procedure it helps with volume reduction, reshaping, areola reduction and give a breast lift all at the same time and this keep the patient from having to undergo more than one surgery.
If the plastic surgeon uses the pedicle methods with the vertical incision during breast reduction it can give a greater chance to the patient that they will still have feeling to their nipples after the surgery. If the patient decides to have children later they will also have a better chance of being able to breast feed with this type of incision.
When the vertical incision is used for a breast lift the plastic surgeon will remove the excess tissue so that the patient’s breast are more rounded and appears to give them a youthful appearance. If the patient wishes to increase their breast size, with the use of breast implants, the plastic surgeon can place them in during the time that they perform the breast lift.
